Woodall-Duckham XXI Club

Dear Member

We write to invite you to a Special General Meeting of the WD XXI Club and the first Lunchtime Woodall-Duckham Club Reunion commencing at 12 noon at the ‘Shires and Kings’ bar of the George Hotel, High Street, Crawley on THURSDAY 27th SEPTEMBER 2001.

You may recall that proposals were made earlier this year to update the W-D XXI Club by deleting the long-service requirement and opening up the membership to all past employees of W-D, and its successor Babcock companies, who would welcome the opportunity to meet old colleagues socially. A revised Constitution was distributed to Members at the annual dinner and many responses have been received, all of which welcomed the proposals. No voices of dissent were heard. Copies will be available at the meeting.

The meeting referred to above is therefore the launch of the Club in its new form. The Special General Meeting will commence promptly at 12 noon and be very brief, consisting of the following Agenda and be chaired by John Moor in the absence of Chris Openshaw, who will be on holiday:

1. Vote on the Motion "This meeting accepts the Revised Constitution of the W-D XXI Club dated 27th September 2001 and the change of name to The Woodall-Duckham Club". (It is suggested that a simple majority of members of the W-D XXI Club present and voting by show of hands is all that is required)
2. Election of the new Committee. ( David Elvin has indicated his willingness to take the Chair in succession to Chris Openshaw and volunteers for the roles of Treasurer, Secretary and Committee members are sought. Lin Cooper, Robin Marlow*, and John Moor may be persuaded to re-stand). (*now retired)
3. An explanation by Terry Harper (Hon IT Consultant to the newly constituted Club) of the Club website and methods of posting news to/from members and the keeping of a membership listing etc
4. Adjourn to the bar to celebrate and discuss any other business.

IT IS VITAL TO THE SUCCESS OF THE DAY that members of the W-D XXI Club publicise the opening up of the club membership to all the old colleagues with whom they have contact and invite them to come along. So please get on the telephone, twist a few arms and arrange car-sharing etc . To enable the hotel to know how much food to prepare (and how many barmen to roster!) please let Lin Cooper know by sending in the slip below or dropping her an e-mail by Mon 24th September latest. Be assured costs have been kept to a minimum and break-even is the intention.
