This event was attended by 39 people and we were very pleased to see them all, including some new attenders, together with the partners who attended.
The Acting Chairman, Terry Harper, opened proceedings by reading a note received at the Club, telling us that Michael Flanagan had passed away the previous October. He then went on to comment on the sad number of losses of members since the AGM in November, Peter Small, whose funeral had taken place just before the AGM; Albert Fisher, who had passed away in late 2017; Terry Irwin who lived in Somerset; our Chairman, Frank Hart; Roger Morris; and Eric Vincent.
He reported that the Committee had looked at precedent and the rules, discovered that they did not form a quorum, and decided that the younger element of the Club be considered for a replacement Chairman. He was pleased to report that Geoff Thompson had agreed to take on the role, and he would be elected at the AGM in November. He then handed over to Geoff to introduce himself.
Geoff explained his pedigree as a Babcock Graduate Apprentice, whose first placing was at Jenkins of Retford, originally a W-D subsidiary. He then found himself with Babcock Spraymixer, which was moved to Crawley at the start of 1985, eventually disbanded and Geoff remained with W-D for a while. He concluded by presenting our Hon. Secretary Lin with a bottle and some Garden Vouchers, in recognition of her efforts.
As usual, the food was excellent, and we were unable to do full justice to the spread prepared for us, despite many making at least two visits to the buffet.
