This event was attended by 44 people and we were very pleased to see them all, including some new attenders, together with the partners who attended.
The Chairman, Frank Hart, opened proceedings by welcoming everybody and regretting that the numbers were substantially fewer than in October. 38 members were unable to attend, many due to illness or hospital appointments. Several had asked that their best wishes be given to the attendees, including Ann Elvin, Jill Shaw, Robin Hughes, Hugh McComb, David Smith and Nick Baker. Sadly we had been informed by his daughter, Madeline Waples, that Eric Davis who lived in Horley passed away on 8th January.
The had been a proposal to change the date of the Lunch and AGM from the 3rd Wednesday in October to the 2nd Wednesday in November, i.e. 9th November 2016, in order to avoid the half term holiday. A vote was taken and the change was agreed.
Frank said that he wished to mention the oldest member present and the one who had come the furthest. By coincidence this turned out to be Peter Schaessens, who is 90 years old and who had travelled from Lympstone, on the banks of the River Exe. He then thanked the Officers for their work in running the Club and also thanked the staff of Southwater Sports Club for looking after us so well
He concluded by presenting our Hon. Secretary Lin with a plant, in recognition of her efforts.
As usual, the food was excellent, and we were unable to do full justice to the spread prepared for us, despite many making at least two visits to the buffet.
