This event was attended by 61 members and we were very pleased to see them all. The increase in numbers over the two previous lunches was very pleasing.
The Acting Chairman, David Powdrill, opened by paying tribute to our Chairman, Derek Gosden, whose untimely death had led to him being drafted into the Chair for a short while.
He also reported the deaths of David Elvin, a previous Chairman, Mrs Eileen Topley, widow of a former director of W-D and of Ron Polly. There were a considerable number of apologies, mostly due to holidays, and some resignations, due to age or distance making participation impossible. He reminded members of the regular monthly meetings at Warninglid and at the Tavern on the Green.
Having acted as Treasurer for a considerable number of years, he now wished to give up that job, and was pleased to announce that Frank Hart had agreed to take on the role of Chairman and also that Nick Pickett had agreed to take on the role of Treasurer, both being therefore proposed for those positions. Lin was willing to continue as Secretary, and Terry Harper as Webmaster. All four were elected by acclamation.
He then presented our hard-working secretary, Lin Cooper, with a token of our appreciation in recognition of her continued good work and of her efforts in the administration of the event.
Finally, he gave gave his report and said that copies of the accounts were at the back of the room, and would be published on the web site. They can be seen by clicking here. The Club continues to have a healthy balance in the bank.
The AGM concluded by Frank Hart thanking David for stepping into the breach and giving thanks to Lin and Terry for their good work in the past. The Buffet was then opened.
As usual, the food was excellent, and we were unable to do full justice to the spread prepared for us.
