Buffet Lunch
held on 30th April 2014
at Southwater Sports Club, Church Lane, Southwater

This event was attended by 63 people and we were very pleased to see them all, including some new attenders, together with the partners who attended.

The Chairman, Derek Gosden welcomed all those who came, read out some messages from members unable to attend and mentioned the names of members who had passed away during the year, including Jack Bruce, Alan Smith, David Taylor, Audrey Colwell's husband Brian and Don Shackley. He also mentioned that enquiries had been received through the web site from James Horn, great grandson of William John Fraser who founded the company bearing his name, and from Susan Smyth, who is the granddaughter of William Musgrave, a retort bricksetter for W-D who retired in 1928. Robin Hughes had been a trainee at W J Fraser Ltd before it was taken over by W-D in 1063, and was able to send some memorabilia to John Horn. Unfortunately we could not help Susan in her quest for information. He then presented our hard-working secretary, Lin Cooper, with a gift in recognition of her efforts in the administration of the event.

As usual, the food was excellent, and we were unable to do full justice to the spread prepared for us, despite many making at least two visits to the buffet.
